Baby it’s cold outside… How to keep your skin hydrated and get that winter glow

The ‘most wonderful time of the year’ is fast approaching, and many of us will be thinking about the C word.

Although it’s easy to get swept up in the planning for the festivities, it’s just as important to take good care of your skin during the colder months.

Most people will notice their skin getting drier and flakier when there’s a chill in the air. With the cold air, dry indoor heat, low humidity levels and the harsh winter wind all working against us to strip our skin of moisture and remove any radiance or glow.

The good news, however, is that there are steps you can take to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy, even as the temperature drops.

Here are our top tips:

ADJUST YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE

If your skin has become dry and irritated due to the dry winter air, you may want to consider simplifying your skincare routine.

It’s important to remember that your skin’s moisture barrier needs to be healthy in order to respond well to serums and toners, so if you are suffering from dry skin, it’s important to not over-complicate the process.

We recommend using The One to help keep your skin moisturised and protected, as well as All Eye Need to keep your under eyes hydrated. Not only will you start to see results within a matter of days, but you’ll have more time to prep for the Christmas break.

USE OVERNIGHT TREATMENTS

Overnight treatments are a great way to keep dry skin at bay. Because you apply these treatments before bed, it gives your skin enough time to absorb the treatment and for it to replenish and hydrate the skin.

Oil I Dream Of is our concentrated night oil that helps to brighten, rejuvenate, nourish and repair the skin, all while you’re asleep. What’s more, it gives an intense moisture boost as it is packed full of rich oils like Argan, Jojoba, Rice Bran, Rosehip, Borage and Evening Primrose.

STAY HYDRATED

Another key step to keeping your skin healthy and glowing during the winter is to make sure you’re well-hydrated throughout the day.

Many of us are guilty of not drinking enough, especially during the colder months when we’re less likely to reach for a bottle of cold water, and more likely to opt for something warming and caffeinated.

Try keeping a full water bottle next to you at all times, or even set reminders on your phone at specific points in the day to give yourself a little nudge, as it’s easy to forget when you’re busy!

GO EASY ON THE EXFOLIANTS

Exfoliation, which helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, can leave your skin looking smooth and vibrant. However, it’s very easy to over-exfoliate, especially if you do it too often or use the wrong products.

If your skin is dry and flaky, you should opt for a gentle chemical exfoliant rather than a scrub that contains large particles. Harsher scrubs are more likely to break down your skin’s moisture barrier and cause damage.

If your skin is cracked, sore or irritated, it is advised that you avoid exfoliation until your skin has healed.

CONCLUSION

We all want that winter glow this holiday season, and ensuring our skin remains hydrated and moisturised is the most effective way to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy.

If you’re suffering from dry skin, or know your skin is prone to getting dry during the winter months, it’s important to keep on top of your skincare routine as consistency is key… And with Amare Vita Skincare it couldn’t be easier.
