Let’s face it, it’s difficult to get perfect skin – particularly when you’re battling against so many elements that can lead to an unhealthy or damaged skin, with sun exposure, hyperpigmentation, inflammation and just the natural effects of ageing as prime examples.
In order to achieve and maintain a smooth and even complexion and eliminate issues such as dark spots, redness and an uneven skin tone, it’s important to create a consistent skincare routine that includes these five powerful ingredients:
Bakuchiol
Derived from the seeds and leaves of Eastern Asia’s ‘babchi’ plant, bakuchiol has long been loved for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It has been found to improve skin brightness, address uneven skin tone, increase plumpness, boost firmness, even skin texture, lessen fine lines and minimise enlarged pores.
Hailed as a gentle alternative to retinol, bakuchiol boasts great skin-healing and acne-fighting benefits. A clinical study looking at bakuchiol’s impact on the skin found it to be just as effective as retinol when it comes to improving hyperpigmentation and fine lines.
Bakuchiol is extremely versatile which is why we use it in our products instead of retinol. It can be used safely during pregnancy and lactation, when retinol cannot. It can also be used day and night, as it does not increase photosensitivity like retinol does.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that is required for the growth and repair of skin tissues; however, our bodies are unable to produce it naturally. For this reason, incorporating quality skincare products containing natural Vitamin C into your daily routine is a great way to harness its powerful antioxidant properties.
Particularly effective at treating sun and environmental damage, it neutralises harmful free radicals, working to brighten the skin while lightening blemishes caused by spots and acne scars. Through inhibiting the production of melanin, Vitamin C reduces discolouration while also boosting collagen which is essential for maintaining smooth skin.
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 (also known as CoQ10 or Q10) is an organic compound that can be found in many of the body’s cells and is vital for energy production to fulfil the skin’s basic functions such as regeneration and repair.
A powerful antioxidant that combats oxidative stress, Q10 supports the production of collagen in the skin, helping to maintain elasticity, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and prevent
hyperpigmentation. As we age, the natural levels of Q10 in our skin declines, making it more prone to increased stress and damage, including fine lines and wrinkles. For this reason, incorporating products with Q10 into your skincare routine could help maintain younger-looking skin for longer.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants are naturally occurring vitamins and minerals (like Vitamins A, C and E) that protect your skin against environmental aggressors like UV rays and pollution, as well as free radicals – molecules in the environment that damage your skin by clinging to your collagen and weakening elasticity.
Fighting these free radicals with skincare products that contain plenty of antioxidants can slow down the ageing process by brightening your skin, calming irritation and smoothing out fine lines, leaving it looking younger and firmer than ever.
SPF
Damage from the sun due to overexposure is the leading factor for unwanted skin pigmentation. The melanocyte cells are stimulated by sunlight and produce more melanin when exposed to UV rays, resulting in a beautiful, sun-kissed tan in the short term, but over time can lead to hyperpigmentation and dark sun or age spots.
It’s important to properly protect yourself from the harmful effects of UV rays on your skin, even in overcast or colder weather. Using a broad-spectrum SPF of at least Factor 30 is essential, with many products offering a moisturising component that will keep your skin hydrated as well as protected.
Amare Vita’s ‘The One’ is not only an SPF, but also acts as a ‘shield’ for anti-urban and digital pollution. It can help protect your skin from everyday pollutants and blue-light.
