The balancing act we call life

Working from home is now a massive part of our lives, and on the surface, it sounds like a dream. You can skip the morning commute, the kitchen is at your disposal, and you don’t even have to get changed. But at the end of the day, there’s no-one to tell you to stop, and it’s easy to work well beyond finishing time.

Most of the time, on our everyday run to get everything done, we forget to find balance. We try to attain everything. We get wrapped up in the stress of everyday life and forget to stop and breathe. But it is important to find balance between life’s demands and ensure you take time to focus on yourself.

Humans are creatures of habit, so with the New Year fast approaching, now is the perfect opportunity to form some better ones.

Draw a line

It’s important to draw a line in the sand between work time and home time, so set some boundaries to separate the two. Structure your day; what are you hoping to accomplish by lunchtime, what are your goals before the school run?

Our homes are filled with creature comforts, so pick an area of your home, whether it’s the dining table, a spare room, or a home office, and turn it into a designated workspace. This makes it easier to step away at the end of the day, creating a sense of escape and leaving the rest of the home at your disposal.

Set a routine

We all have our morning routine. Whether it includes a workout, a shower or eating breakfast, we all have something that gives us that sense of ‘get up and go.’ Maintaining this structure can keep us motivated, and as times change, so must our routines, so start the year off with a new one to suit your needs.

Wake up early and squeeze in a workout, eat a healthy breakfast, and simplify your skincare routine to save time for a coffee. We recommend using The One to help keep your skin fresh and protected for the day. Made for multitasking, our day cream acts as a serum, moisturiser, primer and SPF, which means you can spend less time in the bathroom and more time getting the kids ready for school.

Get enough sleep

Your night routine is just as important as the morning, with the end goal of achieving a good night’s sleep. When you work from home, it can be tempting to work into the night to get things done, but it’s important to set aside at least an hour each evening to wind down.  Whether you enjoy some light yoga, meditation, journaling or reading, spend that hour doing something that makes you feel relaxed and fulfilled.

Before turning out the lights, end your night routine by applying an overnight treatment to your skin. Our concentrated night oil, Oil I Dream Of, helps brighten and rejuvenate your skin, even in your sleep. Fragranced with a blend of calming essential oils, such as lavender and chamomile, a good night’s rest is well within reach.

We know how hard it can be to find the balance between taking care of everyone else and looking after yourself. It’s so important to enjoy some personal time.

We’re always trying to get things done, but we shouldn’t forget to do what we enjoy. It won’t be simple; the best things never are. But striking the right balance between the things we need and the things we love can make it easier.
